Lekker Kayaks Skimmer Touring Kayak is a medium-length touring kayak that strikes the perfect balance between speed and maneuverability. WHAT THE SKIMMER IS ALL ABOUT

Hull design

• The soft V and rounded edges deliver a smooth ride in both calm and rough conditions. When paddling flat, the hull tracks straight; put it on edge, and it turns with precision.
• A moderate rocker allows the Skimmer to climb over waves with ease without sacrificing speed. The width and hull profile provide excellent stability, making the 501 ideal for first-time touring kayak buyers. Experienced paddlers also appreciate this stability when cruising for hours, especially in challenging conditions.
• The Skimmer comes standard with a rudder, with a drop-down skeg available as an option.

Deck design

• The deck combines all the essential touring features with a clean, safe layout. Its relatively low profile reduces wind sensitivity and makes rescues or re-entries easier. Paddle cutaways in front of the cockpit allow efficient, close-to-hull strokes.
• Both the front and rear decks include 44 × 26 cm oval hatches, providing generous storage for long expeditions. An 8” round hatch behind the cockpit serves as a day hatch, and all compartments are sealed with 50 mm closed-cell foam bulkheads, secured with 3M adhesives.
• In front of the cockpit, an additional 8” hatch includes a moulded-in pocket for snacks and a phone—nicknamed the “lunch box.”
• For paddle storage, two holders are provided: one in front of the cockpit with a bungee for quick stowing, and one behind the cockpit for convenience during re-entry after a capsize.
• Front and rear bungee layouts have been refined over years of experience, including a system behind the cockpit designed for paddle-float rescues. Safety deck lines, toggle handles, a compass pocket, and two security bars complete the Skimmer’s deck design.
